Today has been a interesting day for boxing. Vitali Klitschko defeated Dereck Chisora today in Munich in a good fight but the real news coming out of Germany is the post press-conference brawl that took place. Chris Mannix from SI was there to cover the event and was the first to break the news via twitter. Now after a long(at least in internet terms) wait video has surface of the brawl that saw a brawl that Vince McMahon couldn’t book.
Boxing has really left a bad taste in my mouth these past few months. Here’s hoping that the next few matches up make up for the previous lackluster fights.
This amazing project by Michael Kalish is constructed of 1,300 punching bags, 6.5 miles of stainless steel cable, and 2,500 pounds of aluminum pipe to construct a 22-foot-high installation that took three years to complete. Absoulety breathtaking.
Promoters are known to be idiots, Boxing promoters especially and Bob Arum’s statement on the demographics of MMA is just more proof. Arum still believes that the MMA audience is still not reached other areas of demographics of the country, even though UFC is averaging high six figure pay per view buy-rates.
Never mind the fact that Rampage vs Evans did one of the highest grossing PPV’s of all time- the first time two African Americans names were on the marquee for the main event or Cain Velasquez help draw a large crowd of Latinos in his win over Brock Lesnar on last October. UFC is not only expanding their brand globally but with the help of the diversified roster the UFC/MMA audience is bound to grow more than what it already has. Fuckin Boxing promoters
Arum: The Hispanics don’t care anything for it. Most African-Americans don’t watch it. Hey, this country is becoming more and more Hispanic, and it’s growing African-American (in the) audience.
So the future success of UFC is limited. The success of boxing is not, because boxing reaches those groups. The only demographic that boxing has lost is the white, young males, period.
