Dana White gets one step closer to being Vince McMahon as USA Today is reporting that UFC has purchased Strikeforce, its competitor.
With the purchase, UFC now controls the contracts of almost every fighter in the USA TODAY/SB Nation consensus rankings, other than a few athletes in Bellator Fighting Championships and a handful of Japanese competitors at lighter weights.
Nothing changes for the brands in the near term, White said. Strikeforce has a deal to run several events this year on Showtime, a network that White has publicly disparaged often. Zuffa co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta can handle any dealings with Showtime, White told MMA Fighting.
“Lorenzo can go over there and deal with Showtime,” White said. “I’m sure the last time Showtime wants to see is me show up at the doorstep and go over and start having conversations. And that’s no big deal. … there’s a lot of guys on that side of the table who don’t like me.”
The fighters in Strikeforce will continue to fight for that organization and deal mainly with Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, White said. Although UFC can help Strikeforce grow and tweak the operation, for now there will be no crossover between the brands as far as sharing fighters, he said.
“We won’t be doing any superfights,” White said. “Even when we own it, we don’t co-promote, period.”

Five Knuckles is reporting Fedor, after his recent defeat to Big Foot Silva has discussed with Strikeforce the possibility of moving down a weight class and might even take the challenge of facing newly crowned Strikeforce Light HeavyWeight Champion, Dan Henderson. I’m kinda scared of the destruction he could do at the light Heavyweight level because there really is no competition in that class for him in Strikeforce unless he goes to UFC which would be interesting and awesome.
Fedor Emelianenko may drop to 205 pounds and challenge for the light heavyweight title in 2011, according to Fighters Only Magazine.
The Russian legend had been approached by Strikeforce officials prior to this past weekends Rafael Cavalcante vs. Dan Henderson bout about fighting for the title at 205 pounds. Emelianenko is reportedly interested.
Long viewed as a smaller heavyweight, the cut shouldn’t be drastic for Emelianenko. Fans have long clamored for The Last Emperor to drop down to the light heavyweight division, but with his winning streak in tact, Emelianenko never entertained the idea. Now, with two straight losses at heavyweight, a drop down to 205 could do wonders for his career.
Again, the fight is far from signed but Strikeforce has talked with Emelianenko about the drop down in weight and he is interested.

Saturday night’s Showtime Strikeforce event set the premium cable record with 741,000 viewers, with the Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Silva fight doing 1.1 million.
Oh yeah, Fedor decided he spoke to soon and will be fighting again, possibly in the ongoing Strikeforce Grand Prix.
In an interview today at http://dreamfighers.com he said, “I rushed to declare my retirement. I will fight more. Possibly, I will return to the heavyweight Grand Prix.”
